Mozilla has announced that it will be releasing the final version of Firefox 4 on March 22nd; the first beta was made available in July 2010 and after eleven more betas, Release Candidate 1 made a public appearance on March 9th.
Firefox 4 was initially planned for last year but was delayed in order to stabilize the new JavaScript engine and because of additional work on hardware acceleration. Firefox 4 will be the third major browser release in March, following Chrome 10 and Internet Explorer 9.
It wouldn’t be new if it didn’t look new and sure enough Firefox 4 gets a makeover, moving tabs to the top and getting a cleaner interface. It’s also sporting a new and faster JavaScript engine, hardware acceleration to reduce the load on your CPU, HTML 5 and WebM support.
If you can’t wait until the 22nd, the release candidate is available for download now and, since it has proven quite stable, the final build shouldn’t really be much different.
