Samsung Galaxy S3 leaked photo with home button

Another day, another Samsung Galaxy S3 (a.k.a. next Galaxy) smartphone rumor. We’ve already seen a slightly varying set of specs and some widely different purported photos of the Galaxy S III, including ones where the the phone’s insides were supposedly in a dummy case.

Today is the first time that we have two collaborating pieces of evidence. First at the top you can see a photo that was received by PhoneArena from an anonymous tipster. The first eyesore is the physical home button and fixed options/multitasking and back buttons, which go against the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich playbook.

Samsung Galaxy S III (dummy casing) side-by-side with Galaxy Nexus

Not a week passes without a couple of new rumors and purported leaks of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S flagship smartphone. Though Samsung hasn’t confirmed its name yet, we’ll assume for now that it will be called the Galaxy S III, following the naming convention of its predecessors.

So here’s a summary of this week’s rumors in an easy to digest form.

Samsung Galaxy S III supposed leaked shot

Certainly not the first supposed leaked image of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S III that has come our way, but we thought we’d share this with you since a lot of the pieces check out, like typeface, timing, location and last but not least the handset has a very interesting design that we’ve never seen before.

The device looks like a curvy slab of metal with a large display and practically zero left and right bezel — the zero bezel for the Galaxy S III has been one of the longest standing rumors and something we would be very happy about. There are also no hardware buttons, similar to the Galaxy Nexus (check out our full review here), and a feature of handsets designed with Android Ice Cream Sandwich in mind. The device certainly looks premium enough to merit its place in the incredibly successful Galaxy S series.

Canon EOS 5D Mark III front leaked

It’s been more than three years since the Canon EOS 5D Mark II hit the streets and the, relatively, affordable and lightweight full-frame camera has met a lot of success. But three years is a long time in the ever-changing world of tech and Canon has long been rumored to be preparing a successor.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark III was first spotted on an African safari, though at the time it was yet unconfirmed whether it was indeed Canon’s upcoming full-frame DSLR. A new leak over at the forums of Canonrumors has brought us a number of new pictures, confirming the Canon EOS 5D Mark III.

iPad 3 leaked back with new camera and gentler curvature

We’re expecting an iPad 3 announcement early next month. We won’t be repeating all the earlier rumors in this post but you can check our timeline below. One of these rumors points to the obvious inclusion of a higher resolution rear camera with a bigger lens. So today, a Chinese publication claims to have images of the iPad 3 showing the refreshed back of the device.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus back close-up

A lucky Verizon Galaxy Nexus (check out our in-depth review here) owner got an over-the-air (OTA) update notification for a brand new Android Ice Cream Sandwich build, version 4.0.4 IMM30B. We will some help from the forums over at Android Central he was able to pull the update from his device and then share it with the entire Android community.

As there is no official changelog, obviously, you’ll have to rely on users’ comment on what has been fixed/improved in this latest Android release. Discounting for any ‘placebo effects’, those who’ve updated are reporting UI responsiveness and speed improvements, better 4G/3G switching and improved signal strength among others.

Olympus OM-D leaked brochure

It’s been a teaser campaign alright. We first caught wind of the rumored Olympus OM-D mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (MILC) when the company registered it as a trademark with the US Patent and Office at the beginning of the year together with the start of the “OH MY GOODNESS!” campaign.

Ever since, we’ve been getting little, tiny, bite-sized pieces of information, such as the first rumored specs and the first leaked pictures. It’s been a long road however, up to rumored February 8th announcement for the CP+ 2012 camera show in Yokohama, Japan.

First leaked pictures of the Pentax K-01 camera and DA 40mm f/2.8 XS lens

Pentax K-01 with strap

We already more or less know that the Pentax K-01 mirrorless camera, designed in collaboration with Marc Newson, will be announced tomorrow. We now have the first images of the K-01 camera and the new DA 40mm f/2.8 XS lens.

The camera has the rounded lines that we would expect from a Marc Newson design, and below you can also see the K-01 in all three colors, including a really bright yellow — we know that Pentax has a thing for bright colors if the K-r is any indication.

We can’t say we are too enamored with the design, as we are with the design of the Fujifilm X-Pro1 let’s say, but if this camera is priced competitively, as most Pentax cameras are, it will be great value for money. After all, image quality is expected to be top-notch, as this camera is rumored to have the same 16-megapixel sensor as the excellent Pentax K-5. Another big selling point of this MILC (mirrorless interchangeable lens camera) is that it will be compatible with a huge selection of current Pentax K-mount lenses; that’s a big advantage for anyone already invested in the system, as well as over other mirrorless systems with more limited lens choice.

Sony Ericsson MT27i Pepper leaked image front

We’ve already seen evidence of two new Xperia smartphones by Sony Ericsson, the well documented Sony Ericsson LT26i Xperia Arc HD Nozomi and a yet unnamed large-screened Xperia smartphone with an off-center rear camera and lanyard loop-hole.

XperiaBlog has just unearthed a third new Xperia smartphone, the Sony Ericsson MT27i Pepper. According to the blog, it will be a mid-range device, and a successor to the Xperia Neo. It has taken some design cues from the Nozomi, but will feature a smaller 3.7-inch 480×854 display. The Peper is said to ran on a 1GHz dual-core processor and will have a 5-megapixel rear camera.

HTC Edge 4.7-inch Android smartphone leaked, could be world’s first quad-core phone

HTC Edge leaked picture

Dual-core smartphones are so yesterday, when you can have quad-core wonders that is. And here we have our first rumor of a new HTC device the Edge, which is said to run on an Nvidia Tegra 3 1.5GHz 1.3GHz quad-core processor. So if you were getting comfy with the idea of having the latest and greatest Android smartphone like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, HTC Rezound or Motorola Droid RAZR, know that their reign will end soon (well not until early 2012 at least).

So the HTC Edge is said to have a 720p HD 4.7-inch display, an 8-megapixel 28mm f/2.2 lens with rear backlit sensor camera, 1GB of RAM and measure only 10mm thick. It’s supposed to have 32GB of storage and Bluetooth 4.0, though no word on an LTE or HSPA+ radio. Sounds like a dream, huh?

Of course no word whether it will ship with Android Ice Cream Sandwich, though since HTC is already upgrading a host of smartphones to ICS in early-2012, we would consider it a done deal.

The HTC Edge is expected to arrive in early to mid-2012, if the rumors are right that is.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc HD (a.k.a. Nozomi) LT26i images leaked: 720p display and 1.5GHz dual-core processor

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc HD (Nozomi)

Although information is still sketchy, images of a new Android smartphone, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc HD (a.k.a. Nozomi), pegged as the Xperia Arc successor, have leaked over at iAndroid. The smartphone with model number LT26i, is sporting a 1280×720 (720p) resolution with a retina worthy 320dpi (dots-per-inch) pixel density, similar to the just announced HTC Rezound, with a 4.3-inch display.

The Nozomi or Xperia Arc HD is rumored to run on a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor with 1GB of RAM. The Quadrant benchmark score in the pictures is 1,840; this is relatively low for such a processor, but would show how tasking it is for the GPU to drive the 720p resolution. Besides that, from the images we can see front and rear cameras and Xperia branding, while there is a white LED row at the back of the phone.

As with all current Android smartphones, this one is running Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, though Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich might catch up with the Xperia Arc HD before it is finally released, making it the first smartphone by Sony Ericsson to run the latest and greatest version of Android. Besides, remember that 720p is the native resolution for Android 4.0.

More pictures after the break.
